Nasty day in the stock market. I’ll have plenty to say about it on What Are Your Thoughts?
I want to highlight Tom Lee’s visit to The Compound last Thursday.
It’s Monday afternoon, and the video has down 225,000 views. Now, a lot of this has to do with the market; the higher the VIX, the higher the clicks type of thing. But the bigger reason the video went mega nuclear is that Tom Lee has developed a fan base in financial media like nobody else during the secular bull market over the last 15 years.
I saw this incredible chart that shows the environment we just lived through has no parallel in US stock market history, at least going back to 1970.

Some will tell you that this has been a one-way train. That the ride was easy money. And that Tom doesn’t deserve credit for staying bullish in a bull market. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
There have been:
Fourteen 5-10% pullbacks
Six 10-20% corrections
And two bear markets where stocks fell more than 20%

With negative news being rewarded by the algorithms that rule our world, Tom Lee has a ton of guts for remaining steadfastly bullish. That’s why Tom’s videos do numbers. It’s not that he’s 5x better than all our other guests; it’s that he has 40x more fans. His bullish posture has created a loyal army of followers that has compounded alongside the bull market. When people told you the market would tank, Tom told you to buy the dip. When they told you there was a 100% chance of a recession, Tom told you to buy the dip.
And for Tom’s haters who are hoping and praying for the stock market to tank and that this appearance is the one that won’t age well, I hate to tell you, but Tom was not cavalier about the risks currently facing us. He wasn’t bearish, but probably not as bullish as I would’ve guessed.
Speaking of fan bases, we’ve done alright, too, thanks to the help of Tom and other incredible market people.

Tom helped us crack the top ten business podcasts on Spotify for the first time ever last week.
